Painting With Colored Ice

This is a fun activity to do on a warm day.  Our day wasn't incredibly warm but, warm enough to melt our ice paint.  We colored water with food coloring and then poured it in an ice tray.  Then before the cubes set up we stuck popsicle sticks into the cubes.  After they were frozen I loosened them by setting the tray's bottom in warm water.  Then we took them outside to paint on paper I taped to the fence.  It was fun!

  1. Cute idea! Some questions: Does it stain? Does it actually color on the paper? I can't see that from the picture. Thanks

  2. Well, it is food coloring so I bet it would stain. It does color on the picture if it is melting. If it's not melting fast enough you can dip it in a cup of water. We did that and it helped. Thanks for your comment!

  3. This looks like a lot of fun! Great idea.

  4. love it! this would be fun with my library kids outside.

  5. That looks like fun! I would have loved to see the finished result. Something to try when it gets warmer. It was snowing again today... ugh!

Thanks so much for sharing this at For the Kids Friday! I will be posting the next link party tomorrow night. I hope to have you stop by and link up again this week!
