Egg #6: Crown of Thorns

"The soldiers who crucified Jesus placed a crown of thorns on His head, so they could mock Him by saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!'

Read: Matthew 27:29-31

Can you believe that some of the same people who were praising Jesus as God a few days before when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey were now treating Him like a wicked person? They decided if Jesus really was God, He would save Himself from having to die. But Jesus had made it clear to the people that the Father's plan was not what they expected or wanted. God's amazing plan was to save sinners by allowing His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for them. Yet people chose not to believe Jesus and reject Him.

We should never believe others when they tell us Jesus is not God! And we should never be mean or treat someone badly just because others do. We should always do what the Bible, God's Word, tells us to do. And the Bible tells us we should always love others because this is right and it is the way we show that we love God.

The Roman guards did not love God. The rejected Jesus as God. The teased, taunted, hit and beat Him. They made a crown out of sharp thorns, put it on Jesus's head, kneeled before Him, and teased Him by saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' even though they didn't believe He was a king. And then they spit on Him and took a strong, hollow stick called a reed to beat Jesus on the head. They crushed the crown of thorns into His head and caused Him to bleed badly. And still, Jesus showed them the love of God by forgiving and praying for them.

The Bible says if you love God, you will love others. So if you don't love others, you show that you really don't love God. Remember, too, when you experience the thorns of others' hatred toward you, that Jesus responded with love, even when He was hated and treated terribly."

  1. Greetings Melissa
    With all due respect,
the people were not "praising Jesus as God a few days before when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey"!!
Rather they were praising their GOD for their king, the Son of David, namely, the man Jesus of Nazareth,
who rode on a donkey, coming in the name of their GOD!

Matt 21.9-11 ... Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. 10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? 11 And the multitude said,
This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

Mark 11.9-10 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: 10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Luke 19.37-38 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

In these verses, there is a clear distinction between the ONE GOD and Jesus of Nazareth the Son of David, GOD's prophet.
    [Deut. 18.15,18-19]

    Again, compare this statement:
"They decided if Jesus really was God, He would save Himself from having to die."
    With the following verses:

Luke 23:35-39 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God. 36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, 37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself. 38 And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying,
If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.

See the difference? Rather, the people were decided about if Jesus really was the Christ, the chosen of GOD, the promised King of the Jews (e.g. Psalm 2)...

There is simply no notion here about them deciding that Jesus was really GOD!

Melissa, the truth of the matter is that:
Jesus is not Almighty GOD! He never claimed to be GOD! Rather, he is and claimed to be the Son of GOD!
There is solely ONE GOD, the Father.
    [1 Cor 8.4,6]
Whom Jesus the Christ, identified as
    the only true GOD.
    [John 17.3]

Therefore, Melissa, for more info about who Jesus really is,

Take a couple of hours to watch it; and prayerfully it will aid you in your quest for truth.

  2. Adam runs into problems with John 10.27ff and Romans 9.5 and multiple other verses. His idea of "Son of God" is also skewed. He also mistakes the role of "the Christ," who was the Son of David but also called Lord by the same David. Adam is on the wrong side of theology, history, and God.
