This recipe is awesome! My brother-in-law, Travis, made this for me back in 2004 and since then I make it at least once or twice a year. It was the one highlight in a really bad series of events and an absolutely horrible day! So that should tell you that it is a pretty good dessert. After you see the ingredients you will understand why I don't make it more than that! I have tried to make a diet version by substituting several different things. Once I made it with fat-free crescent rolls, just 1 stick of butter, Splenda sugar substitute and diet Mountain Dew. It was nasty. I would suggest picking just one diet thing to substitute...that seems to be the trick. I usually use the Diet Mountain Dew. Anyway, we love this dessert and I know you will too!
Ingredients: 2 peeled granny Smith apple (or other apple of your choice) 2 cans crescent roll 2 sticks butter 2 cups sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon vanilla 10 ounces Mountain dew
Directions:
1. Cut apples in 1/8 separate slices. Roll 1 slice apple in ea roll and lay in pan.
2. Melt butter add sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Pour mixture over top of rolled apples. Pour Dew over top and bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes.
I love the fact that we share so many favorite recipes. I make this all the time. I have used sprite before with no difference i the result. These are so yummy!
This is fantastic! We remember it as the awesome desert that felt like mana from heaven for two very very tired new parents when you brought us dinner that night after Ethan was born!
I made this the other day. My boys loved it. Having two Diabetics in the house, I had no choice but to use the Spenda and Diet Mtn Dew version. They didn't know the difference and were just happy I made a dessert.
I am a stay at home Mom raising 3 boys with my husband of 12 years. My oldest son is 6, the middle is 6 and the baby is 3. They keep me busy and I love it! We moved from Texas to Virginia in July of 2010, where my hubby has taken a job as an Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech. I love reading, scrapbooking, crafting, cake decorating, baking, playing with my kids, listening to music and learning about my Lord and Savior. I welcome any comments as long, as they are respectful.
I read a total of 76 books in 2010 and my goal for 2011 will be 85.
11/25/11UPDATE--I didn't put into consideration that last year I added books of the bible to my list and this year I am not...I didn't keep last year's list but I am pretty sure that at least half of the 76 were just books as opposed to the Bible. So I think a new goal of mine will be to have read 50 books. I only have a month left...
