Member One Boot Camp Week #10

The first day I was able to work out this week was Wednesday and I feel like I got a pretty good one.  I started off with a mile wog around the neighborhood.  I listened to Toby Mac to get my heart singing and my blood pumping.  It was cold...I don't like running and trying to breathe when it's cold.  It hurts.  When I got home I did some arm exercises.  I did a shoulder press and then an overhead press with a squat ten times each then repeated.  Then I did a bicep curl with a stationary lunge, 10 on each side and then a stationary squat with a supinating bicep curl (up with palms facing up, down with palms facing down), 10 on each side.  Then I did a front raise with palms facing up, 10 times.  And then  repeated.  Then I did a stationary lunge with a row.  10 on each side.  Then a tricep extension, 10 times.  Then repeated.  Then I finished up with a 30 second plank and 30 second side planks.  Also a good stretch.  The clouds were moving fast that morning and it was fun to watch.  I may have been daydreaming and stretched for longer than necessary.  On Thursday we took a mile and a half hike at our favorite hiking spot and then on Friday I took a mile walk.

I am not going to measure myself...I've decided to wait until I go to MOPs on the 25th where I will get measured anyway.

This week I managed to workout 2 days.  We have had a lot of rain this week.  On Wednesday I went for a mile wog.  I felt good after and it was really nice weather that morning.  On Thursday it was raining and so I decided to do my Wii workout game.  It was a session that focused on upper body.  You could have fooled me!  She did have me doing some arm stuff at the end but we did a lot of lunges and squats at the beginning.  My legs are still sore from that workout!  I think that the game gives me some pretty good workouts so my plan is to try to do this at least twice a week when it gets too cold to do a workout outside.  I have been replacing one meal a day with a Slim Fast shake for 4 days now.  I really don't like the stuff but I am hoping that by this coming Tuesday I will have a weight difference.  I've ordered some Arbonne meal replacement drinks but I am not sure when I will be getting them.  So for now it's the Slim Fast for me.  I have found my measuring tape again and so next week I am going to measure and see what has changed (or not changed).  Yikes!  Not really looking forward to that.  At MOP's we are going to have a exercise accountability group and so we took our measurements then and weighed.  I honestly don't know why I didn't write those measurements down to keep!  Oh well.  The one to lose the most weight will win a cash prize...I'm gonna go for it!

I did some walking this week but no strength training exercises.  I had little to no energy this week due to lack of sleep.  Simon has been waking up 2 or 3 times a night.  Not upset or anything just awake and loud.  So most nights he has been getting in our bed at some point.  This has made me very tired in the mornings and pretty much all day long.  So, not much to report at all this week.  Not good since it is almost October and I am supposed to lose 5lbs before the end of October and I have gained a pound!  :(

Tuesday I walked down to the basketball court that is at our neighborhood park.  I did walking lunges across the length but I did a count of 20 (10 on each leg).  Then 20 squat pivots.  I then repeated.   So a total of 40 lunges (20 on each leg) and 40 squats.  Then I went to a park bench and did 15 knee ups on each leg and then 15 step ups on each leg.  I started feeling nauseous so I walked back home.  I had planned on doing some crunches and push ups but I didn't feel any better after getting home and by the time I rested I was out of workout time.  Oh well.

By Thursday, I was still super sore from Tuesday!  I made myself get out though.  I walked around my block twice and I carried my weights (5lbs each) and did different exercises as I walked.  I started with an overhead press and then a front raise with palms up and then triceps holding for a count of 3.  I did each exercise through 15 times and then repeated all three again.  Then I did bicep curls, tricep extensions and upright rows.  Again, I did each exercise 15 times and then repeated all three.  This allowed me to walk around my block twice.  I then went to the deck and did 10 pushups.  Then I did V-Ups, bridge ups with an over head press, crunches, lower crunches where you raise your legs up to 12 o'clock and then just lift your hips off the ground.  I did all four 10 times each and then repeated.  Then I did a front plank and a plank on each side, holding each plank for 30 seconds.  Then I stretched.

I'm glad I was able to workout for at least 2 days.  This week I will attempt 3.  I've got to get back in the habit of the 3 workouts a week.  My weight has stayed the same but I am going to try to set a goal of a 5lb loss by the end of October.  I should be able to do that and then that would take my total weight loss since March to 15lbs.  Of course I would still have 15 more to go but I think I do better when I set a goal.

This week I did better.  Well, at least I accomplished my goal and worked out two days!  I have been going to bed earlier in the hopes that it will help me to wake up with a "get up and workout" attitude.  Not really happening.

On Wednesday I did a 20 minute wog.  I walked for 5 minutes and then jogged for 5 minutes.  Then I repeated.  I did  10 squats with an overhead press, 10 bent rows and 10 stationary lunges with triceps.  Then I repeated.  I did 10 glute-ups with a press, holding for 3 seconds each time.  Then 10 lower crunches with 5 lb weight between legs and 10 side-slimmers.  Then I repeated.  That was it except for some stretching.

On Saturday I went for a mile hike with the whole family.  I do count this as exercise because there are hills and my heart rate does increase.  It had been raining most of the day and it was a misty evening.  Troy and I both thought of our walks in Scotland.  We all enjoyed it and it was fun to do altogether.

Well, I think this week was better but not as good as I had planned.  I have really got to get it together.  I have been really lazy in the mornings and I think it is because I have been staying up too late watching episodes of Stargate Atlantis

The first day I exercised was Thursday.  I walked a lap around my block then headed back to my deck for some cardio and weight-lifting exercises.

I started off doing step-ups on the stairs with an over head press.  I did 10 leading on each leg.  Then I did step-ups with a T-raise.  10 on each leg.  Then I turned to the side and did step-ups on each side with a kickout and an over head press.  10 on each side.  Then I repeated it again.  Then I did 15 lunges with a tricep extension.  Then 15 twisting lunges.  Then I went to my mat and did 10 dog kicks on each leg and then 10 dog kicks on each leg.  Then I repeated that.  Then I did 10 crunches with my legs straight up at the 12 o'clock postion.  Then I crossed bent my legs at the knees.  Crossed my ankle over my other leg and crunched toward the knee that was bent out.  I did 10 on each side.  Then I did crunches with the lower half by raising my legs straight up to the 12 o'clock position again and lifting just my hips up off the ground.  10 times.  Then I repeated everything.  Then I did a 30 second plank and stretched.

Today we walked several blocks at a Farmer's Market in Roanoke and then walked to the Transportation Museum and all around inside the museum.  I don't think it burned very many calories because it was leisurely walking.

My goal this coming week:  Exercise at least 2 days!

Really I shouldn't even count this week.  It was a pathetic excuse for exercising and is not worthy of me dignifying it with the title of Boot Camp.  However, this is really about me journaling my exercise and being able to honestly look at what I am doing and then maybe shame myself with my lack of effort or praise myself when I do a good job.  This is definitely a shame week.  Still I am half a pound lighter which brings me to a total loss of 9.5 pounds!  I am not sure how I did it...

Tuesday was the only day that I did a real workout.  I did a lower body workout using the My Fitness Coach Wii game.  It was 30 minutes and the instructor had me doing mostly lunges, squats and leg extensions.  I'm not sure how many or how many reps there were.  It was a good workout and I had every intention of doing another one on Thursday but it just didn't happen.  Oh well, this is the start of a new week, right?

I've heard that there is a Zumba class at one of the gyms here in town and you just come when you want and it's $5 a class.  I did some Zumba when I was a member of a gym back in Texas and I really had fun.  I was thinking this may be a good deal.  I mean that is only 20-25 dollars a month.  Oh, and I still have not found my tape measure.  I may just have to brake down and buy a new one.

Member One Boot Camp Week #3

I took off last week to rest my shoulder that I had hurt the week before.  I was able to get some walking done during the week and of course over the weekend when we took the trip to Natural Bridge.  My shoulder feels better and so my goal was to work hard during this past week but that didn't happen.

It has been raining a lot.  I was able to walk a little on Monday and then on Wednesday I was able to do a good wog for 25 minutes. Then I came back to the house to do some lunges.  I slid on the deck and fell on my left knee.  Yeah, It hurt and there is a good bruise there now.  Anyway, it put a damper on anymore exercise for the day.

Today I hiked with the boys at our "Mountain" Park.  It was the first day for the whole week that the sun shined all day!  The hills out there are murder and I'm always huffing and puffing by the time we get through.  Today was no exception and Josh was right there with me as he had chose to ride his bike.  He still rides with training wheels and this was the first time he has ever had to face hills.  He was a trooper though.

So over all for this week there was no good quality exercising going on.  I hope this next week will be better.  I am going to have to be diligent in setting my 6:30am alarm and draggin' my booty out of bed!

Well, this week was not as good as last week.  I worked out Monday by taking a mile hike and I did 10 lunges on each leg then 10 to each side and then 10 back on each side.

I didn't workout again until today.  And I injured myself.  I can't move my head down without feeling pain.  Nor turn it in either direction.  It's somewhere in my neck and left shoulder.  I need a muscle relaxer but unfortunately don't have any.  I did get a 15 minute massage at a booth at the Steppin' Out festival today.  It was a good massage, I just wish it could have been longer.

So today I did a series of 10 exercises for 10 reps each and then jogged a lap around my "block".  I just continued repeating this for 30 minutes and I was able to get 2 and 1/2 times through.  Here are the exercises I did: squats with overhead press, pushups, V-ups, donkey kicks with weight, side plank jacks, standing elbow to knee, lunges with tricep kickbacks, leg raises to the front, leg raises to the side and leg raises to the back.

After that 30 minutes I did a front plank for 30 seconds and a plank raise followed by alternating arms and legs and balancing.  Then repeated.

I don't know how much working out I will be able to do next week.  Hopefully if I rest, my injury will get better.  I'm really bummed too because my weight has gone back up to 175!  Arghhh!!  I now have the internet at home though and so Weight Watchers will be much easier to do with my online point counter and tracker.

Member One Boot Camp Week #1

So this is the name of my new bootcamp.  I started it and I lead the exercises.  Guess what?  It's just me.  I'm the only member.  I am Member One.  I decided to hold off on joining a boot camp for awhile.  Give me a chance to save some money for other things, and really, I know how to do everything.  Nikki, the Early Bird Boot Camp Instructor, taught me well.  I am going to continue to blog about what I am doing each week and I am definitely continuing on with Weight Watchers.  I am almost at a 10 lb weight loss!  Just a pound and a half to go!  Too bad it's taken me 5 months to do it.  Oh well, they say the slower it comes off the more likely it is to stay off.  Who says that?  Not really sure.  My Mom said it to me once.  Maybe she was trying to make me feel better about it.  That's why I love my Mom.  Anyways here is what I did this week.

I'm continuing with workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  I think it worked for me before so I see no need to change that up.  I will probably try to do it around 6:30am so that I can get it done and get back and shower before Troy goes to work and Josh goes to school.  This week I did it in the mornings but I didn't have to do it so early because my Mom is here!  Yay Mom!

Monday I did pushup planks on our back deck.  I used my workout mat of course.  The pushup planks where you start at 10 pushups then do a plank for 20 seconds.  Then do 9 pushups and do a side plank for 20 seconds.  Then 8 pushups and the other side plank for 20 seconds.  Then 7 pushups and a plank.  And so on and so on.  Those are so tough but it really is a good workout.  Then I did some ab stuff.  I did 2 sets of 10 of each of these exercises: side slimmer, crunches and the ones where you put your feet straight up in the air and just lift your hips off the ground (can't remember the name).  The side slimmer is where you are sitting up and balancing on your hiney (technical term, that) and then twist from side to side.  You can hold a weight if you want.  I just held one of my 5lb weights.  That was it.  I was really sore Tuesday and Wednesday from all those pushups!

I wrote out a complete workout for myself on Tuesday and then Wednesday morning went down to the playground to do it at the basketball court there.  The walk to the playground takes maybe 5 minutes.  So I started with bicep curls and squats, hammer curls with lunges and tricep extensions (above head) and did each of them 10 times and then repeated.  Then I did the grapevine around the edge of the court for 1 minute.  I used the stopwatch on my phone to do all my timing.  Then I did upright rows with lunges, frontraise with palms up while doing squats and back extensions.  I did these exercises 10 times each and then repeated.  Then I ran up the long sides of the court and ran backward on the short sides for 1 minute.  For my last set of exercises I did donkey kicks, dog kicks and a bird dog hold.  I did the 1st two 10 times each and then did the hold 5 seconds on each side for 2 reps.  I then repeated those exercises.  Then I "jumproped" for 1 minute.  Then I did a front plank, and both side planks for 30 seconds each.  I was super proud of myself for getting up and going.  It was a little weird being alone  for it all.  I'm so used to having others there to sweat with me.

Today, Friday, I went for a mile wog.  Wogging in my new neighborhood is challenging with all the hills.  I was huffing and puffing my way up those hills.  Then I got back to the house and used the steps on my deck to do stepups with an overhead press, stepups with T-Rays, and stepups with a front raise palms down.  I did 10 of each and then repeated.  I alternated legs stepping up also.  Then I did stepups with knee raises and no weights.  25 on each leg.  Then 10 lunges and 10 squats.  I feel pretty good about doing this on my own.  I have the tools and I think I have really started to enjoy exercising and the way it makes me feel.  I really want to lose weight and I think that I am finally at a place where my motivation is high enough to succeed.

I haven't unpacked my tape measure yet.  Hopefully I will find it over the next week so that I can measure myself.  I'll let ya'll know next week.

Summer Boot Camp Week #5

We are supposed to move on Tuesday of next week.  It has been stressful and of course most of my time has been taken up with it all.  I have not been able to write (blog) like I have been wanting to.  Anyway, I will be back once we get up to our new location.

This was the last week of boot camp for me.  It was a tough two days too.  We won't meet on Friday because of the instructor is going on vacation.
Monday we broke into groups of 3 and went to 4 different stations.  Station 1 was at the Gazebo where we used the benches to do a tricep exercise and then used the wall to sit against and did T-raises and then bicep curls.  We did 15 reps of all of these and then started over again.  We did this for 7 minutes.  The 2nd station was on the track.  We went half way around did upright rows and then jogged the next half.  Then another arm exercise for a half lap and then jogged the other half lap.  This took up the 7 minutes.  The 3rd station was at our matts with a weighted ball.  There were 3 different ab exercises and we repeated them for the 7 minutes.  The last station was lunges while doing some arm exercises for 7 minutes.  It was exhausting and I was sore that evening and on Tuesday.

Wednesday was really tough though.  I couldn't even begin to tell you everything that we did but we did lot's of different exercises for all the different muscle groups and we did them multiple times.  I was absolutely dripping when I left but I still got a couple of hugs good bye.

I hope that I will be able to find a good boot camp to attend in VA.  I have been told that there is a "Rambo" boot camp so I will have to find out more about it.  I know that this whole boot camp experience has been really good for me and that from it I have learned what exercising should feel like and how to do it properly.

I am down 8 lbs from when I first started this journey in March.  I have not lost as much as I had hoped but I know I gained some muscle and lost some inches.  I will keep doing Weight Watchers and I plan on measuring myself after I get up to VA and figure out which box I packed my tape measure in.  I am sure that won't be the first thing that I will be looking for though.

Summer Boot Camp Week #4

This week we had boot camp on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Thursday replaced Friday because the instructor is leaving on vacation Friday and we have NO boot camp next week.  I am going to attempt to boot camp on my own though.  I was only able to make it Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Wednesday was intervals with 2 minutes of walking and then 1 minute of jogging/running.  We did that for 21 minutes and then we did Push-up planks.  This time we started with 12 push-ups and then 20 seconds of regular plank.  Then 11 push-ups and then 20 seconds of side plank.  Then 10 push-ups and then 20 seconds of the other side plank.  And on and on until you get to 1 push-up!  Then we did some crunches and some side crunches.  My abs are sore and so are my shoulders.

Today we did ALOT of stuff and I am not sure if I can remember it all.  We repeated it a lot so you would think I would remember from repitition.  Anyways, I know we started off with 10 of everything the first time, then did a 1/2 lap and then came back to do it all again but decreased in reps with 8 and then 6.  Then we ran out of time so we just did a few of the exercises for 5 reps.  This is as much as I remember.  Burpees, bicep curls with squats, side planks raises with arm extensions, squats with overhead press, a tricep exercise and a butterfly one, a couple of ab ones, and I am not sure what it's called but the one where you are on all-fours and you raise up opposite arm and leg and then pull in leg and rotate arm in.  So I am pretty much exhausted after all that.

The great thing about this week has been the breeze that has been blowing in to cool us off!  It's so much easier to work out when you don't feel like passing out from the heat!

Weight Watchers is still going good.  I am down 4 lbs since I started.  Yay!  I really want to lose 4 more before our move, which is in 18 days.  I think it's possible.  I'm gonna try!

Summer Boot Camp Week #3

Monday was a challenge.  We did 15 reps each of these exercises: squat press, bicycle kickouts, squat jumps, burpees, pushups, back extensions, and ab thrusts.  Then we ran/jogged/walked 1/2 a lap and then started over again.  The burpees slowed me down.  I always feel like I am going to pass out or throw-up when I'm doing those.  In all, I was able to do three rounds and then she awarded prizes to the people who did the most rounds in 4 different age categories.  The person that won in my age category did 4.  The prizes were giftcards to Spoons frozen yogurt.

Wednesday I did not want to get up, I had approximately 5 hours of sleep and it is hard for me to function fully on less than 6.  But I did go to boot camp and then left about 15 minutes early.  I just started feeling horrible.  Anyway the part I was there for was pretty intense.  We did some squats with bicep curls first with one arm, then the other and then both.  Several reps of each.  Then some back lunges with a T-ray move for the arms.  There was a special little leg lift in there with it.  It took some coordination and I was glad to see I wasn't the only one who had to go through it a couple of times to get it.  I wish I could explain it to you but I don't have the energy.  Anyway we did some more arm stuff with squats and lunges.  Then we did a tabata.  20 seconds of intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest, for a total of 4 minutes.  The first minute was squats with an overhead press.  Then plank jacks, followed by jumping rope (invisible rope), and then star jumps.  After that she was moving on to some ab stuff but, like I said, I was feeling pretty bad so I packed it  up and left.

Friday was a no-go for me.  I didn't sleep too well and I had to meet a friend to move some things so I took the extra 2 hours of sleep instead of a workout.

Next week I will miss Monday and Wednesday because we are heading to Blacksburg, Virginia on Sunday.  We are going to try to find a house and get some things squared away on campus.  The boys are going to be staying with our parents so we are taking this trip all by ourselves!  Yay!  I know it's not really a vacation but I am going to try to make at least part of it feel that way!

Summer Boot Camp Week #2

Monday was Tough with a capital T!  It was super muggy and I was sweating before we even started, did I mention how much I HATE to sweat?  Well let me just tell you, I HATE sweating!  I know it's good for your body and helps it to cool down and all but it is really just disgusting.  Alright, enough about sweat.

We did our entire work out in the parking lot today.  We started with a sprint up the line of a parking spot and then back-stepped back then high-kneed it back up.  Then we did 15 rapid knee-lifts on each leg.  Then we grabbed our hand weights and ran to the corner of the parking lot holding our weights above our head.  I switched from 3lb to 5lb hand weights with the start of Summer boot camp.  I can definitely tell the difference.  On the side we did squat pivots to the next corner and then ran the long side holding our weights above our heads.  Then on the other short side we did walking lunges with side twists.  Then ran to the parking spot and started over again.  We must have done this for 15 minutes or more.  I got through two and one-half times.  After we took a quick lap of the parking lot we went to the curb and did lunges with one foot on the curb and everytime we went down into the lunge we did a bicep curl.  We did one arm at a time, changing legs with arms.  Then we did them curling both arms.  We did several more exercises using the curb.  T-rays while doing step ups, overhead press while doing step ups, push-ups with hands on curb and  knees on the matt and a bridge-up with arms out to side and alternating legs up.  We did several ab exercises also.  It was an intense workout for me and I was shakey afterward.  Muscle fatigue, Iguess.

On Wednesday it was pouring down rain so I walked to the alarm clock, turned it off and got back into bed.  I am not sure if everyone else went to boot camp in the rain that morning but I sure didn't.  That evening I did a 15 minute wog and then did some walking lunges and squat pivots out on the basketball court.  So I got a little bit of exercise in!

Friday was different then what we usually do on a Friday.  Instead of intervals she divided us into 3 groups and then sent us out to start at 3 different stations.  I started, with my group, at the gazebo which is positioned about 1/2 way along the track.  We used the benches there to do the exercises.  Step-ups with a overhead press, 15 on each leg.  Then 15 knee-ups on each side.  And then 15 on each side of knee-crunches.  I don't know that these are the technical terms for these exercises.  Sorry.  However, we then rotated to the next station which was what she called "suicides" on the basketball court.  You start at the long end sprint to the 1/4 line, touch it and then sprint back to the starting line.  So on for the 1/2 then the 3/4 then the full.  I was able to do it 3 times.  Then we went to the track where we were supposed to sprint to cones she had set out along the way.  Stopping at each cone to do 15 squats.  I did one full circuit of this and then it was to our mats where we did some ab, glute and back work.  We also did the pushup planks again.  Where you do 10 pushups then hold a front plank for 20sec. Then 9 pushups and hold side plank for 20 sec.  Then 8 pushups and hold a side plank on the other side for 20sec.  7 pushups and then hold a front plank for 20sec.  And so on, all the way down to 1 pushup with a last plank for 20 sec.  It was a good workout.

By the way, I weighed this past Sunday and I have dropped a pound!  Yay!  I guess doing Weight Watchers along with the boot camp is helping.

Summer Boot Camp Week #1

I am glad that I worked out some last week or I think Wednesday would have been really bad.  She started us off working hard this week.  Well, we were off on Monday so I guess with only 2 days for the week she wanted us to get good workouts in. What I really like is that I don't have to wake up until 6:10am because I signed up for the 6:30am session!  Extra sleep is always good.  The only thing I'll miss is the quiet time that I had when I would come home and everyone would still be sleeping.  Oh well.

Wednesday we did different stations and I believe there were nine different ones.  Each station had 2 different exercises posted on a cone and we did the number one first and then the 2nd time around we did number 2.  Each exercise we did continuously for 90 seconds.  I had to pause occasionally to rest or get a drink.  But it was a great workout.  There were burpees, plank jacks, some leg lifts with medicine balls, arm stuff with dumbells and resistance cords, planks (front and side), step ups using hand weights, squats and lunges, and some ab stuff.  It was fun but I was soaked after.  Yuck!  I really don't like sweat.  I may have to get a sweatband or a wristband.

Today we did something that was kind of fun.  On the track that we use, 1 lap equal 1/3 of a mile.  She had us run 1/2 a lap then do 20 squats.  Then run the other half which brought us to the basketball court.  There we did walking lunges across half court and then went to our mats to do 20 push-ups.  Then we started all over again.  This is what we did for the first 15 minutes.  I was able to do it twice in that time.  Then we did some weight stuff while doing backward lunges and some ab exercise and a few more things.  It was a good work out.

I will weigh on Sunday after being on Weight Watchers for 2 weeks although I have gone over my points so far for the week.  I need to exercise again tomorrow in order to bring myself back in the positive.  I had a Crispy Chicken Salad from Sonic yesterday and while it was much less points then the burger and fries option it was still too many points.  Sad thing is I had a large Dr Pepper with it too!  It was really good though.  I will be making a cake tonight for a shower tomorrow and I am going to have to restrain myself for eating any of the icing!

Boot Camp Week #11

This week was not a good week for me and boot camp.  I was able to make it this morning and that is it.  On Wednesday I did wog for 2 miles.  I came home drenched with sweat, the summer weather is here!  Sweating is good though, right?!  Yuck!

Today we completed the Spring boot camp with a physical assesment.  We did this at the beginning of boot camp, back in week one.  Back then I did a mile run/walk in 12 min and 58 sec and today I did it in 11 min and 20 sec!  I have gone from being able to do 15 pushups in 1 minute to 28, from 5 situps in a minute to 14.  I held a plank for 30 seconds in the beginning and today I held it for 1 min 20 sec!  So Ihave improved!

At the beginning I wrote that I expected or hoped to lose 15 to 20 pounds over this period of time...that has not happened.  I do feel leaner and stronger.  The weight is still not great.  I am not going to measure myself again until the beginning of June.  I will update those numbers at that time.  I know my real struggle is with what I put in my mouth.  I think I need to make time to put together a plan for my eating.  Sometimes I feel like I am the only one who struggles with this.  I know it's not true...I just feel that way.  I suspect that I am an emotional eater...when I am sad.  I have not been trying not to be outwardly sad lately but I think that I have been trying to fight it and maybe I need to just let it go and allow myself to feel it.  I think holding it in is really not helping me to not be sad.  Does anyone else have trouble with giving themselves permission to FEEL anything but good?

Boot Camp Week #10

This Monday I did not make it to BC so that afternoon I did a tabata with my helpful hubby timing me.  See the post Boot Camp Week #6 for an explanation of a tabata.

On Wednesday we did the whole workout in the parking lot. It's a big rectangle and so we ran the long sides with our weights held above our heads and then we did a different exercise each time we got to the short sides. Such as walking lunges with a bicep curl and then the next side we would do squat pivots. Then we ran a lap around the rectangle. Then we would go to our mats and either use the curb to do an exercise or do something on our mats. We would do 3 exercises and then do the parking lot rectangle routine. I think we did that twice. Then the next time we did exercises we stayed at the curb to do cardio. We worked all muscle groups and it was a good workout for me. All those lunges about killed me though!

Today(Friday), I was still sore from Wednesday and I was praying that we wouldn't do much with legs this morning.  We ran our intervals like usual but then we did a running tabata.  Sprint for 20 seconds/walk for 10 seconds for 4 minutes total.  Then we did lots of barbell and stretch band exercises for arms and abs.  Even doing squats and lunges with some of them.  It was a good work out.  Hopefully it will work out the soreness left over from Wednesday.

Next week is our last week for this session and then the summer starts up the first week of June.  So I may do a Workout post the last week of May, when we have "off", but it won't be a boot camp one.  I am excited to see if I do better at the physical test at the end of this camp then I did at the beginning.

Boot Camp Week #9

Well, I started off this week with a weak Monday.  I was not fully recovered from my virus on Monday, but I went anyways.  I was able to do a warm up lap and then 1 of the 3 stations she had set up to do.  It was running the length of the basketball court, squatting side step to corner and then grapevine back to where you started.  Changing sides each time.  I was on my 4th go when I suddenly felt all lightheaded, dizzy and nauseous.  So after resting a bit, I decided I should go home and take another day of rest.

Josh and I did walk and jog (or as my friend Gail says "wog") for 2 miles on Saturday.  His little legs were sore Sunday and Monday.  I told him that is how he knows he worked his muscles good.

Wednesday, our instructor had 10 stations set up and we did each station for 30 seconds.  We almost got through it twice.  The time it took us between transistions took longer than she expected.  She thought we might be able to get through it three times!  The stations were fun.  There was one for jumping rope, for plank bops (that is not the real name but that is what I call it), walking lunges with a tricep exercise, running with weights overhead, wall squats with weight lifting, step ups (on to a bench with weights) and there were medicine balls which we held in our knee and did one-leg crunches with them.  I know I am leaving some out but I don't want to bore ya!  I felt like it was a good workout.  I definitely like it when she does different stations.

Friday was brutal!  For me anyways.  We ran intervals like we do on most Fridays.  Then came the hard part, I think the instructor called them Push Up Planks.  Which I thought would be one exercise but no, it was just the explanation for a series of exercises.  You do 10 push ups and then a plank for 20 seconds.  Then 9 push ups and a side plank for 20 seconds.  Then 8 push ups and then plank on the other side for 20 seconds.  Then 7 push ups and a plank for 20 seconds.  And so on and so on....all the way to 1 pushup and a final plank.  So truthfully I only did 3 or 4 pushups when it got to 6 and 5....my arms just wouldn't do it.  Like I said earlier, it was brutal.  Then we did different ab exercises and arm exercises at the same time.  All in all, I am a tired girl and I have so much to do today!  Lord, give me strength!

I am going to start calorie counting again.  Starting today.  I am going to make an effort to prepare and organize my snacks so I am not just grabbing junk to eat or eating too much.  I really need to get this butt into shape!

Boot Camp Week #8

Monday started off with some circuit training. We had different stations where we had to do some kind of cardio when moving from station to station. Most everything we did was cardio. It was a hard workout for me.

On Wednesday we did mostly exercises that included our weights. We would do one weight lifting exercise repeatedly for a minute and then a cardio exercise (or two)for a minute. We worked every muscle group and I was pretty sore from it.

Thursday I got a stomach virus which has left me feeling not so great.  So I didn't make it to boot camp this morning!  I was pretty uspset about it because we were going to go on a "field trip" and run on some roads around the area we are usually at.

Well, I said in the last post that I would share some results and luckily I did have some to share!  On 4/1/2010 I took some measurements of different body parts.  Here are the measurements:

Upper Thigh - 27"
Lower Thigh - 20"
Bicep - 14"
Chest - 41"
Waist - 40"
Hips - 46"

Now on 4/30/2010 here are the new measurements:

Upper Thigh - 27.5"
Lower Thigh - 19"
Bicep - 13"
Chest - 41"
Waist - 39.25"
Hips - 44.5"

Not sure why I went up in the upper thigh area...hmmmm.  The weight is still fluctuating but now at a lower number between 176 and 178.  Whereas before it would fluctuate between 178 and 180.  I guess those inches can't lie or the way I feel in my clothes.  I just have until the end of May to get down a size.  That was my goal.  I hope I can do it!

Boot Camp Week #7

This was a hard week for me.  I felt very unmotivated and there were a lot of outside contributors to this.  Anyway, I didn't make it to boot camp on Monday.  I had a very long Sunday and that is my excuse.

On Wednesday we did a circuit training in the parking lot of the school where we meet.  We usually are under the covered basketball court and we use the track around that area.  This was the second time for me to be in the parking lot and it was a good workout.  We did different stations for about a minute and a half each.  There were walking lunges, ab exercises, pivoting squats, running, jogging, etc...

Today we ran intervals (walk fast for 60 secs and then jog/run for 90 secs) and then did strength training. We did some variations on the plank and side plank. It was pretty tough but I didn't give up.

I am starting to see more progress. I will fill you in on the details next week. Like I said at the beginning, my motivation this week has not been to great. I am going to try to find a skinny picture of myself and put it on the fridge door. Maybe that will help with the "I don't want to's".
